Samsung unveils Tizen 4.0, Tizen RT with focus on IoT devices

Samsung officially announced the plans to release Tizen 4.0 OS and Tizen RT at Tizen Developers Conference in San Francisco. Since launching, Tizen has become the OS for nearly all of Samsung s products, and with its record of sales growth, proven itself as the most successful Linux-based embedded OS in the world. Among open collaborations, and as we enter the IoT era, we expect Tizen will open new opportunities for the future of IoT, said Hyogun Lee in a statement. Samsung also showcased the Samsung Z4 at the developers meet. The Tizen-OS based Samsung Z4 was recently launched in India and will go on sale starting May 19. Alongside, boosting its IoT plans, Samsung will announce ARTIK 053 module which is a lightweight IoT SoC. The chipset comes integrated with real-time processing and runs on the Tizen RT, a first such device. Although, Tizen OS was developed by the company to primarily run smartphone systems, but over the time Tizen OS gained huge acceptance in the wearable product category. As per reports, Tizen surpassed Android Wear in Q1 in 2017 across global markets.

Samsung will also take the stage at TDC 2017 to unveil new products including QLED TV, the Frame and IoT integrated Family Hub 2.0.
